Wisdom International School of Excellence on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, held a poetry rendition event themed “I Beg to Differ: AI Will Take Human Employment Opportunities,” engaging 78 students from Grades 7 to 10 in a lively exploration of artificial intelligence and human creativity.
The programme, coordinated by Mrs. Tina Chinwe Nwosu, provided a platform for students to perform original and adapted poems in formats such as free verse, sonnet, rap and haiku, while addressing the growing debate over AI’s impact on jobs and originality.
Assistant Head of Academics, Mrs. Susan Okoro, said the initiative demonstrated the power of poetry in strengthening literacy and higher-order thinking.
“When students confront questions like ‘Will AI replace us?’ through poetry, they engage in critical thinking without fear. Poetry isn’t a diversion — it’s a defense against losing our originality in a world driven by algorithms,” she said.
Parents who attended the event praised the school for fostering confidence and structured thinking among the students. Mrs. Enemali Grace described the experience as transformative, noting that poetry gave her child a strong voice to express her views on technology and humanity.
Another parent, Mr. David Oluwasegun, said his son’s analytical writing improved after composing and performing a sonnet, adding that poetry helped him organize arguments more clearly in class assignments.
In her remarks, Mrs. Adesuwa Ogwu, Head of Academics, Administration and Quality, described the event as a declaration of resilience in an AI era.
“This was more than a performance; it was a statement that literacy cannot be automated and creativity demands soul,” she said, adding that the school plans to institutionalize poetry activities and promote responsible AI collaboration in learning.
